Sohee Lee is an artist who creates abstract works that explore the everydayness of materials as a way of communicating the space around us. Reformulating and assembling materials with mass-produced object, from building materials to household items, she explores a neutral relationship between our familiarity and unfamiliarity. This results in thought-provoking sculpture that address what we take for granted in our everyday life.

Upside Down

Installation - cement, vodka, jar

Upside Down (2019) is a concrete piece jar surrounded by a cluster of fragile concrete pieces. By transforming a hardness concrete into fragile concrete pieces and putting pieces in a jar, she challenges the contradictory materiality to ask our familiar experience. To emphasize a sensitivity and a fragility, she was inspired by a jar, as the everyday preserving way of sensitive creatures, being used for home-made brandy in Korea.
